Discipleship at First Baptist Cumming

Just about everyone tries to figure out what they want to do with their life. Early on, people ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The same question can be asked about your spiritual life. If you wanted a career in computers, you would focus on education and jobs in the computer field. If you wanted to be in the medical field, you would do all you could to prepare yourself. The same can be said for any career or job. You intentionally prepare yourself to do something and to do it to the best of your ability. Everyone does this to find value in themselves…to see their life as significant.

“What are you becoming” in your spiritual life? Does your spiritual life consist of the things that you have always done with the church? In other words, you experience no spiritual changes week after week, month after month, year after year. Is there anything “intentional” about what you do to prepare yourself to live the most important life this side of eternity?

This is a challenge to think about the specific activities that you do that you would classify as “spiritual”. Are they intentional to help you grow deeper and stronger in your relationship with God? Discipleship classes are offered all throughout the year at FBC. In particular, there are two Semesters that highlight over 25 classes: Fall and Winter.

Discipleship classes are not offered to gain head knowledge about Jesus, but rather to encourage real obedience in your life to become more like Jesus. Discipleship is a process of becoming Christ-like in our actions, attitudes, and responses to what this world presents to us by knowing who Christ is and what He did for you. To be a Christian is to be a disciple. What kind of disciple are you? As a personal challenge to you, attend one of the future Discipleship classes offered during the year. Your life will never be the same.

FALL 2012 CLASSES START THE WEEK OF aUGUST 19.
