We, indeed, are all broken people in need of God’s healing, comfort and grace. So that our members know more about this care-giving ministry and for those who need support in a time of crisis, we are expanding our identity and vision as a Stephen Ministry Church.

Going through a tough time right now? Are you craving Christian guidance and fellowship, but you aren’t sure anyone will understand what you’re going through?

What is Stephen Ministry?
Stephen Ministry is the one-to-one lay caring ministry that takes place in congregations that use the Stephen Series system. Stephen Ministry congregations equip and empower lay care givers, called Stephen Ministers, to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of Stephen Ministry. No one knows the identity of a care receiver except for his or her Stephen Minister and the pastor or Stephen Leader who paired the two together.

How Stephen Ministry Works
The best way to understand how Stephen Ministry works is to learn about three groups of people involved in this ministry: Stephen Leaders, Stephen Ministers, and care receivers.

Stephen Leaders
Stephen Leaders establish and direct Stephen Ministry in a congregation by building awareness, recruiting and training Stephen Ministers, matching care receivers with Stephen Ministers and providing Stephen Ministers with ongoing supervision and continuing education. People learn to be Stephen Leaders by attending a one-week training course, which includes 50 hours of training.

Stephen Ministers
Stephen Ministers are congregation members trained by Stephen Leaders to offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to people going through tough times.
A Stephen Minister comes alongside a hurting person and meets with that person on a weekly basis to listen, care, encourage, pray, and provide emotional and spiritual support. Men are paired with men; women with women.
Twice a month, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing education.

Care Receivers
Care receivers are people—congregation members and others in the community—who receive care from a Stephen Minister. These are people struggling through a difficult time in life—experiencing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or some other life crisis.
